My Body is Country, My Blood is Salt Water Neon Sign
The Palawa share a deep connection with the salt-water that surrounded our Country. It provided resources and sustenance for our survival.
Our knowledge of these waters, the natural resources and food have been passed down through the generations and have quite literally been imprinted on our bloodlines and cultural DNA. Our bodies and being are an extension of Country and salt-water.
This artwork measures approximately 4500mm wide by about 800mm high. The sign was custom made and only lights in the green shown. The neons are attached to cut-out acrylic panels for a minimalist look and easy hanging.
The artwork was commissioned by and appeared at YIRRAMBOI Festival in Melbourne, 2023.
